Isaac Warner, Hillcrest Renter
Hello! My name is Isaac “Ike” Warner, and I hope to earn your support once again representing Hillcrest as a member of the Uptown Community Planning Group. It has been an honor to serve you on the board and I continue to be committed to advocating for the interests and concerns of our vibrant and diverse community. As a renter in Hillcrest, I understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with renting in our neighborhood. I believe in fostering a strong sense of community where renters feel valued and empowered to participate in the decision-making processes that directly impact their lives.
If re-elected, I will prioritize truly affordable housing initiatives to ensure that all residents, regardless of income, have access to safe and stable housing options. I will also work on tangible solutions to address critical issues like expanding our transportation options, increasing our green spaces, and strengthening protections for our LGBTQ+ residents and businesses through equitable development & sustainable urban planning practices. By amplifying the voices of renters and collaborating with homeowners, businesses, and other stakeholders, I am confident that we can create a more inclusive and equitable Hillcrest for everyone. Together, let's build a future where all members of our community can thrive and prosper. -
Mat Wahlstrom, Hillcrest Renter
Practical solutions to the impacts of climate change need to be addressed by our
Community Planning Groups. This means preserving existing affordable
housing, ensuring new housing is actually affordable, and advocating for
development that is sustainable. It requires questioning the rampant real estate
speculation we see driving our neighbors from their homes and businesses.
I support new construction in scale to existing buildings and sensitive to the
environment, land use and urban planning for density appropriate to
infrastructure and facilities, mobility that is about choices not mandates, and
community development responsive to community input.
Medical Center
-
Kathryn Cheng, Hospital center , Property owner
I moved to the Medical Complex neighborhood a few years ago and quickly fell in love with its unique character and location. Since then, I've had 2 kids and my husband has literally put down some roots: planting 20-odd fruit saplings around our yard.
Professionally, I’ve worked as a data analyst in the mobile gaming industry for over a decade, where I specialize in using data to understand how people interact with digital spaces. I believe those same skills—collecting observations, analyzing trends, and making informed decisions—can help shape the thoughtful support of our neighborhood.
I appreciate all the work that has gone into making this such a great place to live, and I’m excited for the opportunity to contribute to its future. I look forward to helping our community continue to develop in a way that balances progress while preserving the character that makes it special. -
Mary Brown, Hospital center, Property owner
Mary Brown was raised in the Uptown Community. She attended neighborhood schools and graduated from SDSU with an Accounting degree. She has two grown sons who also attended neighborhood schools. Mary has worked on the boards of several community organizations and enjoys working as a group for the common good.
Mary supports a safer walking and biking environment, historic preservation, and thoughtful development. Thoughtful development must consider the danger of increasing density in our older neighborhoods whose two-lane roads were not designed to be adequate escape routes , in the event of a disaster, for large numbers of people. Many roads, especially in the Medical Complex neighborhood, have only one way in or out of the neighborhood.
As a longtime resident, Mary has seen many changes in the Uptown Community. Some good and some not so good. As a longtime resident and homeowner, Mary is committed to an “Uptown for All.” She will represent the voices of ALL Uptown residents, business owners and property owners.
Middletown
-
Scott Case, Middletown, Property owner
Community. I've lived in Middletown for 38 years, building lasting friendships and raising my family within this neighborhood. I appreciate our older historic hillside neighborhood, much of which was laid out in late 1800s. Its blend of single and multifamily homes provide affordable housing to many long-term residents.
Service. Community service is important to me because it sustains the vitality of our neighborhoods by bringing people together to address challenges, improve living conditions, and foster positive change. This is why I have volunteered for decades, working with neighbors to clean up our streets and advocate for infrastructure fixes.
Experience. My professional background includes serving as a Senior Engineering Fellow, where I designed and built large-scale national defense systems. I have extensive experience in working on project teams and collaborating with people from different backgrounds.
Perspective. I support responsible growth and improvements in Middletown that respects the existing base zoning heights. New developments can enhance the area while preserving the historic character of the hillside neighborhood.
Thank you for your support ! -
Mariana Aguilar, renter Middletown
I have been an Uptown resident for 12 yrs, residing in Mission Hills, Bankers Hill and now Middletown. I absolutely love the diversity and the energy of the community.
I have participated in many community service programs such as the San Diego Bay Clean Up. I am now an active member of the San Diego Nice Guys, a non-profit charity organization that helps San Diegans in need.
In the banking industry, I worked my way through the ranks to Branch Manager, a role in which I was responsible for the success of the branch as well as the team. In my current work as an Event Planner, I collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds and different opinions with one common goal - a successful outcome.
I am in support of our community’s growth, and recognize the need for housing. It is imperative that the needs of the current and future residents, businesses and visitors are taken into consideration as we plan for growth.
We should aim to enhance our community’s beauty while preserving its charm and historic buildings. We must plan for adequate infrastructure, such as parking, in order for our businesses to thrive. I feel very strongly that zoning regulations must be followed instead of circumvented, and the input of community members is taken seriously.
As a member of the planning group, I will be committed to listening to the people of the community and carrying forward our message to others.

Robyn Dunn, Mission Hills renter
Hi. I am a self-employed renter and a longtime San Diego resident. What I appreciate most about my Mission Hills neighborhood and others nearby are their walkability, the many places to go and things to do, and the diverse architecture. I appreciate the diversity among my neighbors, too, and I am concerned about the high rents, limited parking, and increasing traffic that affect us all. As our community changes, I hope that it will continue to be a welcoming, convenient place to live, work, shop, and enjoy. If you elect me to the board, I will be committed to hearing and representing your views about future development projects and land use issues.

Michael Vanger, Mission hills renter
I am a resident of beautiful Mission Hills, where I rent an apartment. I believe in increasing the supply of all types of housing, in order to fight the affordability crisis and meet the needs of our growing community. To accomplish this I'm in favor of removing excessive regulations and allowing homeowners and property owners the freedom to decide what works best for their own circumstances.
I also care about improving our transit infrastructure, particularly for pedestrians in the high traffic mixed use parts of our neighborhood.

Wet Stone WineBar
Kyle AmdahlI support growth and development that is better by design, better for business, and better for people. It starts by rethinking how to be cleaner and safer. Next, we work within our neighborhoods to create better experiences that impact us and our customers.

I understand the day-to-day life of our neighborhood residents, business owners, and visitors. We can make it better. I care for our neighborhoods, cultures, history, and identities. I will help guide the growth and evolution of what’s to come. We must celebrate our lives and spaces by enhancing who we are. Good design is in the details of every great neighborhood.
